Hivemind Sync
Hivemind Sync keeps your brain, your shared setup, and the files you hand off available on all your trusted machines.
It doesn’t make your machines public, upload every local file, or give one computer’s permissions to another.
What syncs
| What | Why it moves | What stays behind |
|---|---|---|
| Hive Superbrain vault | Agents on every trusted machine work from the same notes, memories, skills, and tasks. | Secrets and files outside the vault. |
| Shared Env | Set up a provider once and reuse it on every trusted machine. | Secret values never go into Obsidian notes. |
| Handoff files | You or an agent send a file or task to a specific machine. | General folder mirroring and secrets. |
Set up brain sync
- Open Brain.
- Choose one way to sync the vault: your existing sync tool (Obsidian Sync, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Git, or similar), HivemindOS-managed Syncthing, or manual only.
If you already sync this vault, keep using that tool. If you choose Syncthing, HivemindOS pairs your trusted machines and watches the connection for you.
Don’t run two sync tools on the same vault. If a conflict copy appears, review it before agents rely on that note.
Share setup once
Add a key in More → Saved keys and choose whether to share it. Permitted agents on your trusted machines can then use it.
The vault only records the key’s name and whether it is set. The value stays in the protected shared environment.
When a machine is offline, changes wait and apply when it comes back. Removals sync too, so an old copy can’t bring back a retired key. A project can still override a shared key with its own setting.
See Shared Env for details.
Send a file or task to another machine
Use a handoff when a file or task needs to go to a specific machine or agent. Pick the target, add instructions, and send. The receiver picks it up once the vault has synced there. For example:
- send a generated image to the computer with your publishing project;
- move a build to a stronger machine for testing;
- give another agent the files it needs to continue a task.
Don’t use handoffs for passwords, private keys, recovery phrases, or API keys. Use Shared Env instead.
See Hivemind Sync Handoff Transfers for the commands.
When something looks out of date
Fleet and Brain show whether your machines and vault sync are healthy. HivemindOS fixes common Syncthing problems on its own before asking you. A machine that was offline may need a few minutes to catch up.
- Check that the machine is online in Fleet.
- Check sync health in Brain.
- If a key is missing rather than a note, check More → Saved keys.
- If it still doesn’t catch up, see Troubleshooting.
The rule of thumb: notes use your vault sync, secrets use Shared Env, and files you send on purpose use handoffs.
